We routinely remove lesions from the skin. If there is suspicion of skin cancer, the lesions are routinely sent for biopsy. Excision includes pigmented and non-pigmented lesions, or moles.
We also remove lesions from underneath the skin. The most common are called lipomas. Lipomas are benign fatty tumors. Basically, a fat cell that looses control and gets big.
Cysts are also removed from the skin. The most common is a sebaceous cyst. This is very similar to a zit. The skin pore gets plugged, and the secretions of the gland get backed up into the skin, causing a noticeable bulge.
Most skin surgeries can be done under local anesthetic in the office. If desired, we can provide a valium for the procedure, but then someone else must drive you home after the procedure.
