Trauma is a part of every surgeons practice. Surgeons are the overseers of trauma patients. The surgeon then assures that all injuries are addressed by the appropriate physicians.
Almost all trauma patients meet their surgeon in the emergency department when they are being evaluated for their injuries.
General surgeons do not routiinely treat bone and other musculoskeletal injuries. These are referred to Orthopedic Surgeons for care. In the event that a trauma patient has multiple injuries, they may have 2 or 3 physicians taking care of their different injuries.
